The Met Gala 2019 | Our Favourite Looks
It was fashions biggest night of the year, with the Met Gala 2019 taking place on Monday in New York’s iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art. The theme; Camp: Notes on Fashion based on Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on Camp.’ As per, the night did not disappoint and delivered some of the most incredible fashion we could have wished for.
So here are some our favourite looks from the night
We can’t mention the Met Gala and not include the reigning queen of extravagance, Lady Gaga. She 100% took this theme and ran with it! Susan Sontag in her essay ‘Notes on Camp’ describes camp as being a reason to dethrone serious. ‘Camp is playful, anti serious, more precisely, camp involves a new complex relation to ‘the serious.’ One can be serious about the frivolous and frivolous about the serious.’
Arriving in a bellowing pink ball gown by Brandon Maxwell, Lady Gaga playfully revealed, in a Russian doll like performance a further three (yes THREE!!!) more outfits underneath!
All eyes were on us with Ezra Miller’s eye popping Met Gala look. The actor stepped onto the pink carpet wearing a Burberry suit accompanied with a jewel corset, train and white cape, but it was his face that had us in a spin! The Fantastic Beast actor had adorned his face in eyes that were so lifelike that it was a.) hard to figure out which were his real eyes and b.) hard not to fall over from dizziness
‘I would define camp as an expression of your most outrageous.’ Cara Delevingne did not disappoint, her rainbow theme was a nod to the LGBT flag with the Pride inspired stripes being completed with a pair of multicoloured platform heels and a Swarovski cane.
Kendal and Kylie Jenner
The girls certainly did their homework this year! Arriving in brightly coloured feathered gowns, Kendal looked every inch the Victoria Secret model she is, with her bright orange feathered wings, while Kylie went the extra mile matching her lavender wig to the colour of her dress.
Vogue Editor-in-Chief and chair of the Met Gala since 1995, Anna Wintour looked stunning in an elegant, highly embellished Chanel floor length gown which was in fact the last Chanel dress Karl Lagerfeld designed before sadly passing away earlier this year.
